Treasure box
Actually, I have a special treasure box, Tatsuya’s Treasure Box, filled with knives that got some scratches during production or are unique pieces. Today, I decided to organize it a bit. I found a lot of great knives inside, so I’m thinking of offering them as rare finds for sale. When making so many knives, some end up being slightly out of standard, like a bit thicker or with a slightly different shape. Since they’re handmade, they can’t all be like they came out of a mold. I’m planning to finish these up with a proper Honbazuke.
Today, I’ve decided on this one: the SUISIN Denshou 270mm Ken-style Yanagiba. It’s slightly thinner than the standard blade, with a thickness somewhere between a Yanagiba and Fuguhiki. It has that classic White #1 Steel sharpness. I’ve given it a sharpening that cuts through both the flesh and sinew that tend to push back against the blade. The setup I used: #500 diamond stone ⇒ #1000 medium grit stone ⇒ natural stone (Suita) ⇒ Arashiyama.
