light bulbs and fluorescent lamps
Thinking about what would be handy to sharpen a kitchen knife! It’s… a lightbulb! And guess what, an incandescent bulb? The one they call a bare bulb.
Although often overshadowed by fluorescent lights, this bulb is finding its place in delicate tasks like sharpening knives. It really shines when it comes to detailed work!
Using a bare bulb reveals things that might go unnoticed under fluorescent lights! In artisan workshops, you’ll always find this bulb in areas where delicate tasks are carried out. (Just to be clear, there are exceptions too! ) When it comes to assessing distortion, blade cracks, and the overall condition of a blade, this bulb is the go-to choice. Is it because it’s similar to sunlight? If anyone knowledgeable about light is around, please drop a comment… I’m asking for help here! Total hand-off, haha.
Straight fluorescent lights work well for inspecting the surface of a knife! They show the subtle texture and curves on the surface honestly.
