Rust
This morning, I checked my Deba and Yanagiba knives that I used at the Uedaya workshop the other day. They had already started to rust in Uedaya’s kitchen, so I tried to remove the rust with “Sabitoru” that we use at the office. But once rust starts to appear, it’s pretty stubborn and hard to get rid of.
It was rusted in spots.
This point becomes deep, and if sharpen to that point, the blade will chip.
I scrubbed with the fine “Sabitoru,” but there are still faint rust marks left. Once rust sets in strongly, it seems like that spot tends to attract rust more easily. I’ll find some time to slowly polish them thoroughly.
I heard a rumor that you can remove rust with fish skin (like leatherjacket fish skin). I wonder if it’s true!
