Sujibiki sharpening repair

I received an inquiry about sharpening repairs, but something felt off about the customer’s tone… It sounded so gloomy, almost like they were on the verge of tears.

Concerned, I asked what had happened, and they explained:
“I took my knife to a local sharpener, and when I got it back… it looked like it had been ground down with a machine. I’m so sorry to bother you, but could you please fix it?”

And so, they sent it over to SUISIN for us to take care of it!

The scratches on the blade might suggest that someone attempted to grind down the blade’s thickness—but the edge has been left paper-thin and completely unusable…

The back of the blade shows clear semi-circular grinding marks, likely from some sort of rotary polishing machine…
On top of that, the knife is completely dull, which makes this a huge issue when it comes to proper knife sharpening.

I’ve often heard a certain sharpening shop in Senshu venting their frustration, saying, “Those fraudulent sharpening services!!!”
To be honest, I used to think, “There’s no way anyone could be that bad,” and dismissed it as someone else’s problem.
But seeing it firsthand like this… it’s quite shocking.

That said, the fact that businesses like this exist must mean there are customers out there who are somehow satisfied with this kind of work…

The repairs are now complete, and I’ll be shipping the knife back tomorrow!
